#23 It is definitely a beginning

I finally went through the Monash 23 things and really find it is definitely not an ending but a beginning of a new journey with I equiped by all the cool tools and applications of web 2.0. Reflecting my learning experience of the 23 things, I felt a little guilty. The Monash 23 things is such a wonderful program but not everyone participates in or finish the journey even with the beautiful Ipod. I did not finish it until the last minute. I should have put more time into this learning process as I would have benefit from it more. I would come back to explore again when time permits in the future. I would like to say many thanks to Peter, who keeps this program running. I suggest this blog to be kept and open to our students in the future.

#21 Podcast

I used Itunes a lot but only for the ipod music. I downloaded Juice 2.0 to explore the podcast posts. It is easy to find podcast list from the podcast directory. It would be a useful information source if we carefully select the podcast subscription. I will explore more later on. I recommend Juice 2.0. It is easy to use.

# 19 Discovering web 2.0 tools

I chose www.threadless.com, an online retailing website of T-shirts from the 2008 list of Web 2.0 Awards nominees. This retailing website is very interesting as customers can design T-shirts by themselves. They can send their designs and photos and make money out of them. This website is not only an online retailer but also an online entertainer that makes the shopping a funner experience. The idea of this website makes me think that we may need to use a similar tool to get students more involved with the teaching process we experience as lectures. Students maybe more active if they can suggest cases for study for example.

#18 Online Productivity Tools

I tried Google Docs and really liked the idea. But I do not think MS office will die because of it. Google Docs at present do not offer functions as complex. People need to connected to the Internet to use Google Docs, which is still an unconvenience for some people.

#something about wikipedia

I used wikipedia very often to get some quick ideas of topics I was interested in. But I have never really rely on the website for serious research as I have some concerns about the accuracy of the knowlege. I have never been braved enought to edit any topics. I will feel more comfortable is the website has some reviewers for all the posts.

#learn about wikis

I found the wikis are an very interesting phenomanon. The good thing about it is anyone can get involved and it is a collection of knowledge and ideas. But the negative side about this excitement of getting involved is quality control of the posts. As a reader of wikipedia for example, I sometimes hesitate to use the information from that website because of the uncertainty of the accuracy of the information.

As for the applications of wikis, there would be a lot, such as specialty websites for coin collectors and all kinds of club members.

#web 2.0 and marketing

I found an interesting video. In this video, "...Seth Godin explains how web 2.0 and social networks can help marketers build a new kind of relationship with their customers.". Here is the link, www.bnet.com/2422-13723_23-162360.html. I think web 2.0 fundamentally changed the way marketers communicate with their customers and deliver customer value in a much more efficient way.

# Exploring Technorati

I tried this website and searched" learning 2.0" on the blog posts and the blog directory but could not find an search box in Tags. The searched results are the same for the blog posts and the blog directory. I didnot find a particular blog I was interested in because of the time. To me, Technorati is a "google" for blogs.

# The social bookmark

I found the social bookmark of del.icio.us is doing through Yahoo! I set up an account but I am not sure wether I will use it later on. It is a cool idea but it is like another organizer. When I have too many organizers, I may need more organizers to organize these organizers. :)

# Explore twitter

I have had a twitter account for some time. But I almost did not post anything. I learned what a harsh tag is and tried to find the monash23 groupd but did not succeeded. I am still not quite sure whether I will use twitter in the future.

# play with online image generator

I tried the Generator Blog and it was horrible to see my face on a man's body. ^-^
I like www.imagechef.com, which is simple and fun to play around.

ImageChef Sketchpad - ImageChef.com

#9 Locate some Marketing blogs

I used the google reader to locate some marketing blogs. I useed the add a subscription tool and searched for "marketing research". I then added the Journal of Marketing Research-AMA blog. Then I can see all the important upcoming events organized by AMA. It was a great experience and made me realize how many things I have missed without using this tool ealier.

#8 Learn about RSS feed

Yes, I saw those little icons before but I did not know that it stands for "Really Simple Syndication". I added Peter's blog of Monash 23 things to my google reader. It is really cool. I think it would help to filter the huge volume of information available online these days. But the challenge is how to use the tool wisely.

#7 Blog about Technology

The Internet and related technology have changed our way of teaching and learning in a fundamental way. As teachers, we can utilize a lot of multi-media tools to deliver our materials to students. By doing so, teaching and learning become more enjoyable and effective. For example, I often looked for interesting videos from Youtube to use in my lectures. I did this by put a hyperlink on the slides and played the video by simply clicking the hyperlink. I got the impression that one can find anything on Youtube. Another Internet webside I use often is wikipedia. Whenever I wanted a simple yet accurate answer to my questions, I went to wikipedia to get it.

#6 Some Flickr Fun

I tried the Flickr Color Pickr. It is really fun to pull a bunch of pictures with the same color by a single click.

#22 experiencing screenr.com

My impression of Youtube is that one can find everything on it. But I never uploaded anything on Youtube. I just tried Screenr and fell in love right away. It is definitely a cool tool to create a video of the computer screen.

Here is the URL to the very first video I ever created,
http://screenr.com/wb2

#5 Experiencing Flickr

I saw Flickr for the first time when I was searching for some used furnitures on Monash Market Place. I did not realize that it was associated with Yahoo! until I started to experience it in Monash 23 things.

I created an acount could Bluemelbourne and posted 3 photos from my computer. What impressed me most is the speed of photo uploading. It is really fast!

The first photo I upload is a green Nike hat. Here is the link, http://www.flickr.com/photos/45089609@N04/4142485775/

Try to catch up

Am I already an old dog ? I do not really know what to write on this new platform. (Stopped here and went to get some water...). I have something to write now:
I just saw a fellow hangs a notice in Chinese on his door. Those characters are fine. But it reminds me of an American professor presented his stuff with some Chinese characters on his slides a while ago in Monash. It was hilarious. Some interpretations of those Chinese Idiom were really wrong and funny. Well, I must have made tons of similiar mistakes when I was struggling with English.
